Chingonas
The Chola style is not only a fashion statement, but it is a sign of the Chola’s identity. Forged by the struggles of poverty, violence, and conservative gender roles, the Chola look is Style as a form of Resistance personified. The road has been paved by the women that came before them for over a century, and the chola aesthetic is one that’s been marginalized, misappropriated and misunderstood for too long. These CHINGONAS showcase how bad ass and beautiful these women are. They embody the spirit of danger, rebellion, resistance and evoke feminine fierceness.
This small series was shown in a 3 person group show on June 2017 at Sanchez Contemporary in Oakland.
